Win Dear John on DVD

Forgotten Eighties classic

A ‘lost gem’ of British sitcom, written by Only Fools And Horses creator John Sullivan, is released on DVD for the first time today – and we have six copies to give away.

Dear John – about a new divorcee who joins a local support group after his world falls apart – ran for two seasons and one special in 1986 and 1987. It stopped when star Ralph Bates fell ill with the cancer which eventually claimed his life four years later.

Sullivan, who also wrote Citizen Smith and Just Good Friends, put together an eccentric bunch of characters for the 1-2-1 group, while finding comedy in the bleak situation of his hero, reduced to living in scruffy bedsit run by a slightly odd elderly Polish woman.

The complete first series is released today in a two-disc set by Acorn Media, priced £19.99, but to stand a chance of winning one of our copies, answer the following simple question by May 24, when we will select the winners at random from all correct answers received. Good luck!

Ralph Bates came to prominence in what series of films?
