Feast on Curry & Chips

Controversial comedy DVDs up for grabs

Two of the most controversial TV comedies ever to have aired are released on DVD next week – and we have three copies of each to give away.

In Curry and Chips, Spike Milligan famously ‘browned up’ to play Irish-Pakistani factory worker Kevin O’Grady, aka ‘Paki Paddy’.

Originally broadcast in 1969, the six-part sitcom featured a script ripe with racially-charged language from the pen of Johnny Speight, creator of Alf Garnett.

Speight, who always insisted the racists were the butt of his jokes, also wrote the TV play If There Weren’t Any Blacks You’d Have To Invent Them, also released by Network on Monday.

About a blind man who 'accuses' a passer-by of being black, the frank and thought-provoking comedy-drama first aired in 1968. The DVD also includes a 1974 colour remake starring Leonard Rossiter and Bob Hoskins.

To win one of three prize packs comprising a copy of each title, just answer the following simple question by 5pm on April 26, when we will select the winners at random from all correct answers received. Good luck!
