Ronnie for nothing
Our first prize winner will receive all three discs: Hark At Barker, Six Dates With Barker and The Ronnie Barker Collection, while three runners-up will receive one title at random.
In Hark At Barker, the star plays as the doddering, decrepit Lord Rustless - hereditary owner of Chrome Hall and professional pontificator on whatever takes his fancy. The 15-episode series is a selection of monologues and sketches in a given theme, in which David Jason also plays multiple roles.
Hark At Barker was written by a team that included Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie, Eric Idle and Ronnie Barker himself, under the pseudonym Gerald Wiley. This series earned Barker the 1969 Variety Club Award for ITV Personality of the Year.
Made in 1971, each of the episodes in Six Dates With Barker had a separate storyline, including the first outing of the Phantom Raspberry Blower - as written by Spike Milligan – to a story set in the far future where laughter is compulsory and grave consequences await those who don’t…
The Ronnie Barker Collection combines Hark at Barker and Six Dates with Barker in a three-disc set – and all are released on Network DVD. Here are a couple of clips:
