I agree completely with Steve's review of Alun's recent show. I saw him a couple of weeks ago. I instantly fell for Alun's delivery...and his trousers and trainers combo. I loved the pendulum swing from the absurd to the everyday things that he comments upon and his catastrophic overreactions. But when he said goodnight I felt deflated. I knew I'd had a nice time. I knew that a few of his stories were going to stay with me (the peach and the Red Bull was genius) but I didn't really feel like I'd seen a show, and I'm sure that's because there was no 'ending'. You're never going to get an huge climactic close from Cochrane I know, and that wouldn't be suit him either. But some tying together of the stories, some story that calls back the bossy pasta, the man on the train, the Sheffield ninjas...something to make you feel that you've been a journey with him in some way. Instead I felt like I'd seen a show that could have easily been sliced into a few 20 minute sets for any comedy club - and that's okay, that's fine, but you just know, you can just feel that Alun Cochrane is better than that.
