Fat Fat Pope

Show Rating:Fat Fat Pope rated 2/5

Someone's been listening to Chris Morris' Blue Jam.

And for a quartet who have shamelessly stolen the format of moody, surreal sketches laid over ambient music, Fat Fat Pope seem remarkably pleased with themselves.

They're not half as clever as they think they are - how much talent does it take to copy someone else? - nor as quarter as funny.

Mostly they opt out of that tiresome business of writing actual jokes, and instead rely on bizarre streams of consciousness to fill the time. At one time this might be innovative, now it's just derivative.

And it's a shame, because the few gags that are in here actually turn out to be pretty good.

But there's far too much of the tiresome, surreal and self-consciously dark stuff in between, and when they do stumble across the occasional decent idea, it's stretched well beyond its limits.

A show for those who like their comedy without laughs.
