Virgin Incapable was either brave or brilliant, possibly both. Certainly it was refreshing in its simplicity - the material was engagingly uncynical and the show offered perfect performances and inventive situational comedy. There were elements of the surreal, the absurd, the clownish, the cartoonish, the urbane and witty and the musically impressive. Contrary to Steve Bennett's opinion, there WAS something neatly hilarious about a tubby man-monster in a pair of red pants. This theme of reluctant innocence coloured the show, and was explored in mimic pieces such as the lovestruck quasimodo mentioned above, and more explicitly in rambling songs about perversion and dogs. At one point, the word 'labia' threatened to bring the show to a halt. This was a great return to 'funny', and a welcome alternative to biting satire and caustic observation
