Phil Wang, Ian Smith and Stuart Laws to tape specials

Upcoming recordings

Phil Wang, Ian Smith and Stuart Laws are all recording their latest stand-up shows for release.

Smith and Laws’s shows will be taped for indie comedy label 800 Pound Gorilla at the Pleasance in London on June 4.

Meanwhile, Wang’s show, Wang In There, Baby!, will be recorded at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe – London’s only candlelit theatre –  on April 25. It has not been revealed which outlet he is taping it for, but his last special, Philly Philly Wang Wang, is on Netflix.

Smith’s show Crushing got a four-and-a-half-star review from Chortle at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe and describes how he tried to deal with his stress levels.

He said: ‘I'm looking forward to performing a show about stress with the added pressure of it being recorded to go on the internet forever!

‘Once it's released I can finally stop worrying that another comedian will steal my idea of going to Slovakia with their hairdresser to smash up a car with some hammers.’’

Meanwhile Stuart Laws? Is That Guy Still Going? is about getting married, beer mat flipping and being middle of the road – and also earned a four-and-a-half-star review from this website last August.

He said: ‘I cannot  wait to film this stupid show that kept making people cry and seeing if I can wield that power through cameras and onto memory cards so as to pass it on to the grandchildren I’ll never have.

‘Also, to be filming it with Ian is the best - we’ve worked together for years and I can’t think of a better person to be doubling up with.’

Laura Rouxel, head of UK comedy for 800 Pound Gorilla, added: ‘We strive to work with some of the silliest billies in the biz and we are we in luck here!

‘What a privilege to work with two of our favourite comics on the scene, we can’t wait for their specials to be out in the world for all to see.’

Tickets for the Smith and Laws tapings are available here.

Wang’s show  – which previously played 64 UK dates as well as the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand on tour – goes on general sale on Friday.

Any money you contribute will directly fund more reviews, interviews and features – the sort of in-depth coverage that is increasingly difficult to fund from ever-squeezed advertising income, but which we think the UK’s vibrant comedy scene deserves.
