Official: Alternative Comedy Experience to return

Line-ups announced

Comedy Central has officially confirmed the return of The Alternative Comedy Experience, curated by Stewart Lee.

Chortle reported a month ago that another 12 half-hour episodes of the stand-up showcase were in the pipeline – and now the broadcaster has confirmed the show will return in early 2014.

It has also announced the line-ups, with Kevin Eldon, Michael Legge, Ginger & Black, Nish Kumar, Liam Mullone, Grainne Maguire, Lou Sanders and John Hegley all be taking part for the first time.

The second series will also feature the return of Tony Law, Isy Suttie, David Kay, Simon Munnery, Maeve Higgins, Josie Long, David O’Doherty, Paul Foot, Bridget Christie and Henning Wehn.

The broadcaster is keen to point out that female comedians make up almost half the bill.

Producer Colin Dench said: ‘We are delighted at how well received the show has been, both by our TV audience and the comedy fraternity as a whole.

‘To be given the opportunity by Comedy Central to bring such a credible and uniquely funny bunch of comedy misfits together on the same bill for a TV series is a real thrill.’

The show will be recorded over ten gigs at The Stand comedy club in Edinburgh from July 8. Tickets for these shows are available for £8 here
