Comic sold sweary CD at kids show
Comedian Jay Foreman has apologised after selling a CD containing swearing at a kids’ comedy gig.
The musical comic sold copies of his 20 Songs album after an under-12s show in Ipswich at the weekend, even though it contained a smattering of bad language.
His mistake landed him on the front page of the Ipswich Star today, under the banner headline: ‘Comic sold “vile” adult CD to kids.’
Grandmother Jan Green told the paper: ‘To say I’m annoyed about it would be an understatement. I am so shocked. This CD couldn’t have been more inappropriate for children under 12.
‘I’m horrified. Some of the language in it is vile and unacceptable.”
Three of the 20 songs contain bad language, and Foreman says he usually has a cleaned-up version of the CD for sale after children’s gigs, but brought the wrong copies to the New Wolsey Theatre on Sunday night.
Foreman said: ‘I feel really terrible about what’s happened.
‘After performing at an event for children aged under 12 at the Wolsey Theatre, I accidentally sold copies of the CD that I usually sell at gigs intended for adult audiences.
‘I was mortified when I found out.. I’m really upset about the whole thing. I want to apologise unreservedly to all the parents and children who listened to the CD. I want to make it absolutely clear that I do not think it is appropriate for children to listen to, and I really regret not checking my merchandise properly before selling it at a gig for children.’
Foreman has also waived his fee for the gig, run by Duke’s Comedy Club, who have also apologised.
Sarah Holmes, chief executive of the New Wolsey theatre, added he own apology, saing: ‘We completely understand the anger and disappointed this has generated and we apologise unreservedly.’
