Band covers Seona Dancing's 80s flop

Ricky Gervais could finally get a song into the charts – 30 years after his pop career stalled.

Manchester indie band Super 8 Cynics have released a cover version of his flop Eighties single Bitter Heart, which he recorded as Seona Dancing.

The original only reached No 79 in 1983, leading to Gervais abandoning a pop career for comedy.

Its original video featured frontman Gervais – who also wrote the lyrics to the song – dressed in typical New Romantic style.

Super 8 Cynics said they received the blessing of Gervais and former bandmate Bill Macrae to record the songearlier this year.

Lead singer Ady Hall said: ‘Bitter Heart is a bit of a forgotten record, but strip away the shoulder pads and hairspray and at its heart you have a seriously catchy song worthy of greater recognition.

‘We’ve rearranged the song, brought it up to date and made it our own. The entire band is proud of Bitter Heart and we believe it's a chart contender.’
