Radio 4 doesn't want to keep up with Jones
Radio 4 has axed Milton Jones’s comedy series after five series.
The pun-led show Another Case Of Milton Jones has been running since 2005, but Jones has been on the channel with similar shows since1998.
Speaking at the Altitude comedy festival in Mayrhofen, Austria, Jones revealed that he learned the news at almost exactly the same time that he found out Channel 4 were not commissioning his pilot, House Of Rooms or a full series.
Commissioned for the Comedy Showcase strand, the surreal TV show had Jones as a mummy’s boy interacting awkwardly with visitors to the family home. It originally aired in January, and is still available on 4oD.
He said: ‘I found out that House Of Rooms wasn’t being commissioned in the same week I heard that they cancelled the radio show.
‘But it was great to be able to do more acting for the TV show. I tend get castings only for oddballs or “man who’s just woken up”.’
A Radio 4 spokesman was keen to stress they hadn’t ruled out working with the Mock The Week regular again in the future.
He said: ‘In this instance we decided not to re-commission a sixth series of Another Case Of Milton Jones but we are always very interested in hearing about new ideas involving Milton.’
After Altitude, Jones will be heading out to the New Zealand comedy festival, before starting work on another stand-up tour, due to begin in January 2013.
