Hacker's back

Yes Prime Minister returns after 24 years

Yes, Prime Minister is returning to TV for its first new series in 24 years.

Creators Jonathan Lynn and Antony Jay are writing a new series for digital channel Gold – but this time the PM will head a Coalition government.

Jim Hacker, originally played by the late Paul Eddington, will reportedly face economic crisis and pressure from Scotland seeking independence. There is no news yet on who will play him.

The show has recently been revived for the stage, while this small-screen revival is part of Gold’s drive to make more of its own programmes, rather than relying on repeats. A new series of Red Dwarf is currently being made for sister channel Dave.

UKTV's director of commissioning, Jane Rogerson, said of Yes Minister.: ‘I can't wait to see this constitutional treasure back on our screens.’
