Office merger

Gervais and Carell unite for charity gig

Ricky Gervais is to appear in a New York charity gig alongside his American Office counterpart Steve Carell.

The pair are taking part in a star-studded benefit that also boasts Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey and host Jon Stewart.

The Night Of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert For Autism Education will also air on the Comedy Central channel in the States, where it will form the basis of a telethon.

Also on the bill at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre will be Jimmy Fallon, Triumph The Insult Comic Dog and Stewart’s Daily Show co-stars past and present John Oliver, Lewis Black and Stephen Colbert.

The show, staged by Stewart’s company Busybody Productions, takes place on October 2, with the TV broadcast coming on October 21.

A similar fundraiser was held two years ago featuring Larry David, Will Ferrell, Kelsey Grammer, Conan O'Brien, Adam Sandler, Susan Sarandon and Ben Stiller, as well as many of the acts taking part in this year’s show. It raised around $2.5million.

Carell recently announced he would quit The Office after its next series.
