Corden clashes with Patrick Stewart

Tension at awards bash

James Corden became embroiled in a verbal spat with Sir Patrick Stewart at a star-studded awards ceremony.

Tension rose when Sir Patrick criticised Corden for the way he hosted Glamour Women of the Year show standing at the back of the stage with his hands in his pockets, looking bored, as winners came up to collect their prizes.

The Star Trek actor added: ‘From where I was sitting, I could see your belly – and that was right over there, at the back of the room.’

Corden then stood very close to the 69-year-old actor and spoke directly into his face: ‘I’m waiting for the punchline. Go on. No, seriously go on. ’

As shouts of ‘Get on with it’ came from the audience, Corden added: ‘You could see my belly? We can all see you dying right now. Let’s go for it.’

Later in the ceremony, Corden said: ‘I feel bad for people who haven't seen my belly.’ Then lifted his shirt and showed it.

He also told the audience, which included Cheryl Cole, Billie Piper, Christine Bleakley and Lily Allen: ‘OK can we get a taxi really quickly please. There's an old man going home.’
