Israeli branch of The Office opens

David Brent becomes Avi Meshulam

Israel has unveiled its version of The Office, transporting the action from Slough to Yahud, near Tel Aviv.

The show will be renamed Super Office, with Israeli actor Dvir Benedek taking over the David Brent character, who is renamed Avi Meshulam.

Gareth becomes Yariv, and Tim and Dawn become Yossi and Dana. The show also includes Abed, ‘an intellectual Arab with a gentle soul’’, and Abba, an Ethiopian Jew.

When the remake was announced last year, creator Ricky Gervais said: ‘I am thrilled and amazed that Israel are making The Office with local writers, directors and actors. I mean, who ever heard of Jewish entertainers?’

The Office has already been remade in France, Russia and America, while the original version has been shown in more than 70 countries.
