Iannucci denies reports

Armando Iannucci has denied that a planned election-night special of The Thick Of It has been ditched because the writers couldn’t be sure who will win.

James Smith, who plays hapless adviser Glenn Cullen, yesterday said that a one-off had been considered, saying the idea of recording different outcomes had been discussed.

He told The Sun: ‘Armando wanted to do an election special but we thought that it would look foolish if we got the wrong party.

‘We thought we could do different endings and end it on that night but that wouldn't work logistically.

‘Then we thought, what's the point of doing that and missing the point that the show is so politically astute?’

However, writing on his Twitter feed this afternoon, show creator Iannucci said: ‘Mmm. Can I just say, this is all bollocks? Nothing’s been discussed yet.’

A third series is expected later this year (or fourth, depending on how you count the episodes), although writing will not begin until after the election, expected on May 6.

Chris Addison, who plays fellow adviser Ollie admitted on BBC Breakfast this morning that he would find himself voting Labour just so he could keep his job on the comedy.
