The power of television
A relatively unknown Scottish comedian has become the first act to add extra shows to his Edinburgh Fringe run – after selling out thanks to his appearance on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.
Kevin Bridges was seen by around 5.2million viewers appeared on the first episode of BBC One’s new Saturday night stand-up showcase earlier this month.
Within a week of his appearance, his festival show An Hour to Sing For Your Soul, had sold out all dates at his tiny 50-seater venue, Joker Dome.
Kevin, 22, said: ‘Selling out in just one week has been a major lift in the build up to my debut solo Fringe experience. My appearance on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow came at a great time.’
McIntyre added: ‘Kevin Bridges was sensational on Comedy Roadshow, a real star in the making. I’m thrilled that the TV show is introducing the public to exciting new comedy talent and this young Scot is definitely a name to watch in the future. I wish him the best of luck.’
He has now added two extra nights at the 336-capacity Pleasance Beyond and two at the 80-seater Pleasance Beside to meet demand
Bridges has been performing stand-up for five years – having never set foot in a comedy club before his first open mic spot as a teenager.
He is now represented by Off The Kerb – the same agency McIntyre is signed with and the sister company of Open Mike Productions, which makes the Comedy Roadshow.
