Britcoms dominate international awards
British shows dominate the shortlists, with comedies making a particularly strong showing. After Britain’s 31 nominations, come Germany and the Netherlands, with eight apiece.
Production companies had submitted a total of 402 shows across eight categories, which have now been whittled down to 75, and the winners will be announced Rose d’Or Festival will be held in Lucerne, Switzerland from May 2-6.
In the comedy category are UK shows Fonejacker, Kombat Opera Presents..., Modern Toss, Outnumbered, Star Stories and The Peter Serafinowicz Show.
They face international competition from Dutch show Kargar trifft den Nagel, Spain’s Muchachada Nu, Germany’s Nasty Girls and The Chaser's War on Everything from Australia.
Britain also has four of the nine nominations for best sitcom: Gavin & Stacey, My Family, The IT Crowd and The Mighty Boosh.
Others in the catefory are: Hello, Hans! (Poland), Pilots (Italy), Stokvel (South Africa), The Librarians (Australia), and The Teacher (Germany)
In the entertainment category, Sir Trevor McDonald’s topical comedy NewsKnight is up against seven foreign shows.
