Student heats set

Talent hunt visits Bristol and Glasgow

The last two heats of Chortle’s hunt for the best student comedian have been finalised.

The West Country heat will take place at Jesters in Bristol next Tuesday March 22, compered by Mark Olver. Admission is £4 (£3 for students)

And the Scottish heat takes place a week later, March 29, at Strathclyde University students union, and admission to this is free.

It will be hosted by Michael McEwan, just a day before he starts his marathon 36-hour One Big Laugh gig for charity fundraiser in Edinburgh’s Three Tuns pub.

Both heats of the student awards start at 8pm. A couple of places have become available at these heats - email student@chortle.co.uk with details of your course, and a contact phone number, to apply.

So far four finalists have got through: Nathan Caton, a second-year architecture student from Anglia Polytechnic University; Paul Byrne, a third-year history and literature student from Essex University; Symon Garner, a third year media and performance student at Salford University; and Kent University drama student Ben Travis.

Two winners from each of the remaining heats will go on to the London final on April 25, as well as two other ‘wildcard’ entries from any of the heats.
