Man of letters
Billy Connolly is receiving an honorary degree from the University of Glasgow this morning.
The comic is being made a Doctor of Letters in recognition of his contribution to Scottish arts and popular culture.
Connolly, 59, is just one of the celebrities honoured by the university on i its 550th anniversary. Others to include the Prince of Wales and Magnus Magnusson.
Connolly was born in Glasgow's Anderston district in 1942, and worked as a welder in the city's shipyards before he turned to comedy.
