Keith Carter's twitchy, druggy Scally is a brilliantly conceived and fully developed character, savagely and hilariously parodying a type well overdue for ridicule.

It's a caricature so well drawn that he can raise laughs from saying the most innocuous things - the disparity between the dialogue and the character being enough to spark helpless giggles.

But Carter does not rely on the easy laughs of stereotyping alone, having a bank of strong material, keen observations and well-thought-out surrealism behind him.

This is an impressive act and one that has the depth and the potential to run and run.

In a few years, this guy will surely have his own sitcom. But in the meantime, make sure you enjoy this assured and skillful act live.
