Inept hospital radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury is the creation of Tom Binns, a former breakfast radio host on London's XFM as well as a comedian in his own right.

He created Brakenbury relatively early in his career, and the character appeared on Radio 1, Virgin and GLR, before being rested as Binns developed his own radio career..

However, Brakenbury was resurrected for the Edinburgh Fringe 2007, where he was nominated for the if.comedy prize for the best show, and his roadshow, complete with inappropriate records and bungled cues, is now a regular fixture on the live circuit.

Yes we're all mad. It's the only possible explanation. We're mad, everyone laughing in the room when you saw it is mad, the judging panel at the Adelaide Fringe, the reviewers from The Times, The Age, The Guardian and all the others, the Edinburgh Comedy Panel, BBC producers and thousands of laughing audience members a year are mad including the reviewer from Chortle. The only sane person alive is you Elizabeth.

I Just recently saw this cross between Timmy Mallet/The Wiggles at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. For all of you who have left comments saying how funny he is, are you mad? I am obviously far too intelligent to appreciate this poor excuse for comedy.

Saw his Edinburgh preview in Darlington on Sunday. He was a last minute stand-in, and he tried out a lot of brand new material, most of which was hilarious. It was the best hour’s entertainment I’ve had in ages. He should go down a storm in Edinburgh.
